The Colombian Santorini in Doradal (La Aldea)

La Aldea in Doradal, nicknamed the Colombian Santorini, has whitewashed houses, blue domes and cobbled lanes. Plenty of people stop for photos after Hacienda Nápoles.

What La Aldea is

La Aldea is a hillside neighborhood in Doradal built in the 1980s to mimic the Greek Cyclades: white facades, blue doors and domes, and stairways between alleys. It used to be called Los Artesanos and took its name from the developer, Aldea Doradal Ltda. (Semana). At the foot of the hill is a wetland where, according to Travel + Leisure, lives a hippo that escaped from Hacienda Nápoles. Read more about Escobar's hippos.
